Starting from the first of September, Muslim around the world are doing one pillar of five pillars of Islam, "Sawm (Fasting)". Ramadan or Ramazan (Arabic: رمضان, Ramaḍān) is a Muslim religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, believed to be the month in which the Qur'an was revealed to Angel Gabriel, to deliver it to Prophet Muhammad. It is the Islamic month of fasting (sawm), in which participating Muslims do not eat or drink anything from dawn until sunset. Fasting is meant to teach the person patience, sacrifice and humility. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer more prayer than usual. During Ramadan Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance into the future, ask for help in refraining from everyday evils and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. This is my 6th Ramadan in Germany, a country where Muslims are minority. Though I always miss doing Ramadan in Indonesia, but alhamdulillah, I could overcome the feeling of being homesick during this blessing month by making special food for iftar. Food that make me feel at home, food that always served in our family for iftar.
Today in the afternoon, 6 hours before iftar, I craved for this coconut milk pudding that my mom used to prepared for us for break our fasting. I called my mom straight away to ask the recipe, thanks Mom, you are the best!
I modified the recipe by substituting gula Jawa (coconut sugar) with palm sugar, and adding pandan paste to give color. The original color of this pudding is brown (from gula Jawa), but palm sugar didn't able to make it brown, that's why I added pandan paste to make it pretty.
I am sending this coconut milk pudding for Lubna of and Yasmeen form who organized a Ramadan event called .
